The Ancillary
Medical Training (A.M.T.)
School is a pioneer institute for training the Ancillary Medical personnel’s in
Jammu Division of Jammu & Kashmir State and offering the basic and promotional
educational programs. It is controlled financially by the Principal, Govt.
Medical College & Dean to associated Hospitals, Jammu and academically
affiliated to Jammu & Kashmir State Medical Faculty. The primary objective of
the school is to provide and promote education in the field of health.
The school was established in the year 1953 and initially three years General
Nursing, Two years Auxiliary Nurse Midwife and one year Paramedical i.e.
Compounder, Dental Technician, Laboratory Technician, Radiological Technician
and Sanitary Inspector Diploma Programs were formulated for meeting the health
needs of the society of Jammu division. Later nine months midwifery program was
added to General Nursing Program and two years Auxiliary Nurse Midwife Program
was replaced with one and half years Female Multi-purpose Health Worker Program
as per central pattern.
In the year 1981 the Jammu and Kashmir State Medical Faculty approved the
initiation of two years Ophthalmic Assistant Diploma Program.
In the year 1996, six months Lady Health Visitor promotional Training Program
for trained Female Multi-purpose Health Workers was also started to meet the
health needs in the Public Health Field. The Compounder, Dental Technician,
Laboratory Technician, Radiological Tech. Sanitary Inspector programmes have
been revised and now two years Diploma programme in Pharmacist/Medical Asstt.,
Dental Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, X-ray Assistant, Sanitary Inspector are
being offered. Further three and half years General Nursing and Midwifery course
as per Indian Nursing Council have also been adopted from the current session.
The School believes in training the Nurses and other Health personnel from all
the six districts of Jammu division where they will work as effective members of
health team for the society.
The school provides opportunities for the students to integrate and utilize
knowledge, understanding and skills from various fields of Nursing and other
Para - medical.
Objective of the School
To provide education for preparation of Nursing and other personnel who are
committed to promotion of health, prevention of disease and care and
rehabilitation of the clients.

Basis of selection
All candidates of reserved or unreserved category have to appear for written
selection test except Lady Health Visitor candidates.
Selection test
It will be held at the
communicated dates in Jammu at the venue indicated in the admission ticket. Test
will be of two hours duration and contain objective type items.
Hostel facilities
The female candidates are permitted to stay in the hostel and have to join the
mess, as cooking in the room is not allowed.
Library
A well equipped Library is available for the students.
Attendance requirements
75% attendance in theory as well
as in clinical (Practical) is required for appearing in examination. However,
100% clinical (Practical) requirement must be completed before the award of
diploma.
